About Capoeira

Capoeira (kah-po-way-dah) is a traditional Afro-Brazilian art and cultural heritage. It is practiced like a game, using a variety of dance, martial arts, and acrobatic movements, and is performed in a circle (roda) to live percussive music and call-and-response singing.

Our Milwaukee Capoeira class is led by Professor Steve, a member of the Body and Movement Capoeira Angola Association founded by Mestre Angola in Salvador, Bahia Brazil. Mestre Angola is a student of Mestre Vermelho who was a student of the famous Mestre Pastinha. Steve has practiced Capoeira for over 25 years and taught in the Milwaukee area over the past two decades.

Why Practice Capoeira?

"The goal of our class is to have fun and experience the many benefits of Capoeira in a way that is safe, and accessible to all. We aim to maintain a space where every person feels welcome, respected, supported, and encouraged to explore, learn, and grow."  — Professor Steve
