About Capoeira

Capoeira (kah-po-way-dah) is a traditional Afro-Brazilian art and cultural heritage. It is practiced like a game, using a variety of dance, martial arts, and acrobatic movements, and is performed in a circle (roda) to live music and singing.

Our Milwaukee Capoeira class is led by Prof. Steve, a member of the Body and Movement Capoeira Angola Association founded by Mestre Angola in Salvador, Bahia Brazil. Prof. Steve has practiced Capoeira for over 25 years and taught or performed in many schools, community centers, and universities in the Milwaukee area over the past two decades.

"The goal of our Capoeira class is to share the beauty and benefits of the traditional art of Capoeira in a way that is safe, fun, and accessible to all. We believe in creating a space where every person feels welcome, respected, supported, and encouraged to explore, learn, and grow." — Prof. Steve
